Orion Promotions staff have been proclaiming 2015 to be the Year of Orion. A bold claim, to be certain. To make a statement like that, you’d better be ready and willing to back it up- especially in this day and age.
In Las Vegas, that is exactly what Orion Promotions did. With the announcement of the promotion’s first PPV event to be held outside of the friendly borders of New Mexico, the company that was on the verge of its one-year anniversary dared to go bigger. Better.
The weekend was kicked off in a somewhat unusual fashion for a wrestling event. Not in the ring, but with one. Two of them, in fact. CEO Mason Pierce and his long-time companion Leona were wed inside of the prestigious MGM Grand hotel- the resort that would play host to the PPV itself at the end of the weekend’s festivities.
After a well-publicized and highly-attended reception at the couple’s Lake Las Vegas estate, it was time for the real reason the Orion crew was in the City of Entertainment. There was business to take care of. Six matches that would showcase both the veterans as well as the up-and-coming talent.
However, the first official appearance of the happy couple at the Grand Garden Arena would end with heartbreak, as the blue-haired siren Elysia, seemingly upset with Pandemonium being left off of the ZT:C show, took her vengeance by ordering Erik Villjan and Kaioh to attack and injure Mason Pierce in the middle of the ring. Pierce was later reported to have been taken to the UMC Medical Center for observation. No word yet on his condition.
“The Canadian Badass” Justin Jones had a bone to pick with Pandemonium, but that would have to wait. Across the ring from him was Columbus, Ohio native Caleb Collins. The young high flyer was looking to make an impact with his debut. However, the only impact that was made was Justin’s large fist upside the young man’s skull. With the shenanigans of one Derek Killjoy, Justin managed to take out the aerial master. But Killjoy started the night off insulting the company. It’s said that the new Chief Operating Officer, Cindy Samson wasn’t too pleased with Derek. It’s unknown what the new COO plans for Derek and Jones…
The second match of the night would see another newcomer to the promotion, Australian sensation Danny Richards as he would square off against veteran Orion Warrior Tyrone “Crazy Boy” Smith. In a fast-paced match of move and countermove that left the fans wanting more, it would be the veteran savvy of Smith prevailing- but just as in the preceding match, there would be controversy at the end as the newest signing to Orion- 8Ball- who had literally just signed his contract hours before the event, would make his presence felt, attacking both competitors and throwing down the gauntlet. Backstage reports have confirmed that Smith has in fact asked for a match against 8Ball at Infinity’s 25th show.
The third match of the evening would be a contest between the two competitors who came up short in the Zero Tolerance Cup Semi-Finals. Jiraiya Kaito was looking to stop the downward slide that he’s been taking in the last few months. He succeeded in moving on into the tournament, but he met the end of his run against Trinity Carpenter. Jason Lobo was also trying to regain his momentum after his defeat at the hands of Jacklyn Hughes. Both men went in hard charging, but in the end, the youth and power of Jason Lobo proved to be the key in the win as he cracked the back of Kaito and plunged him into the mat with his stunning 505 finisher. But… A monster was watching… And waiting. A name and face almost forgotten by Orion fans was set to make his return. “The Turkmen Terror” Remy Resnick, along with his manager, the affluent and sly Floyd Fox, burst back into the consciousness of Orion with a vengeance. Fox has declared the services of the brutish Resnick to be for sale. But will Lobo turn the Turkmen into damaged goods?
The middle of the show ended up being bittersweet for Orion’s fans, and a generation that grew up in the early 2000s. Jaime Alejandro declared to the world that he was unable to come into the ring as a Warrior anymore due to the most serious of disorders… Parkinson’s disease. Going into battle against Tanya Black, who has been considered one of the toughest women in the business… The two throwbacks left everything they could in the ring, only for Romeo Bautista to declare the match a no-contest due to inability to continue. In a symbolic gesture to the crowd, Jaime left his boots in the ring and walked out silently…
Earlier in the evening, the balance of power shifted within Orion, as the newly-wed Leona Pierce assumed control in her husband’s stead. This decision has drawn considerable concern from many backstage, wondering if the former Mob princess has what it takes to take the helm of a wrestling organization. However, those sources declined to be named- probably out of concern for their own well-being.
Remy Resnick’s return would not be the only one at Zero Tolerance: Climax, though. Johnny Napalm made himself a part of the show, throwing down a challenge to whoever would walk out of the MGM Grand with the Orion Championship. He’s got a long road ahead of him to get back to that level, but Napalm has assured everyone he is up to the task.
With that, it was time for the final two matches of the night, and the two most highly-anticipated matchups of the year. In the co-main event, the two members of The Explosive Cocktail- the reigning Orion Tag Team Champions- were forced to put their friendship aside in the name of competition as Trinity Carpenter and Jacklyn Hughes found themselves embroiled in a battle to become the first-ever winner of the Zero-T Cup as well as the “golden contract” that would accompany the trophy to the winner. The familiarity of the two competitors with each other was apparent from the opening bell to the hard-fought ending bell that would see “The Ripper” standing tall with the trophy in hand and the contract awaiting her signature. Rumors are circulating that Jacklyn might have her sights already set on an opponent for that contract, but we will have to wait to see how things pan out. Will she make her decision at Infinity 25, or will she wait?
The main event of the evening, nicknamed #BattleoftheBastards, by the Orion fans. Zane PureHeart found out that his AlabamaGate plan failed miserably as he was treated to Jacklyn’s “yoga session” with his former cameraman, Timmy. And anyone who knows how Jacklyn operates, realizes that her yoga classes have a high “mortality” rate… But Zane had to brush his anger and fear aside, because of what awaited him. The First Orion Champion, going into his year long reign, Captain Howdy. Howdy proved to Zane that he was the first and ultimate bastard in the industry. Every trick that Zane tried, appeared to be countered by the pure wile and evil of his opponent. When it came time, though… Zane’s sheer will proved to overcome the master of the mind games.
Zane PureHeart accomplished the impossible and dethroned Howdy to become the Second Orion Heavyweight Champion. A feat deemed impossible by the fans and the wrestling media. With 2015 starting off as the Year of Zane, the question must be asked… What’s next for Orion? Most importantly, what’s next for Zane PureHeart? With Jacklyn Hughes, Johnny Napalm and Captain Howdy chasing him… Can Zane survive 2015? Or will the former hunter become the prey?
One thing is for sure- 2015 has gotten off to one explosive start. And it will continue as Orion returns to Isleta Resort And Casino’s Event Center for their twenty-fifth show. Scores are sure to be settled, wounds re-opened, fires stoked and questions answered. And the burning question that’s being whispered… Every wrestling media source has received a cryptic message from Orion’s offices that says one thing…
“We are Strong Style.”
What does this mean for Orion? All Leona Pierce would say is… “Stay Tuned.”
